Hate Decoded is an educational initiative designed for anyone who is seeking to understand Islam beyond the noise, sensing that there's more to the story being told about Muslims and are willing to look closer.
The media sphere is made up of very loud soundbites about Islam that mask the reality of an entire religion practiced by over 2 billion Muslims globally. These talking pieces then conceal the full picture, reducing it to a blurry, messy rendition of the detailed and beautiful image beneath.
That's where we come in.Hate Decoded will help you decrypt these messages into true knowledge of Islam, giving you a clearer idea of how this religion is actually practiced by Muslims — told by scholars and devout practitioners. And we'll help you view the source of the allegations, and what powers at play have to gain from painting Islam negatively.
Why This Exists
Anti-Muslim hate crimes are on a sharp, documented rise. Scholars and researchers have recognized something troubling: the dominant public narrative about Islam has been, and continues to be, shaped largely without Islamic voices. Headlines, political commentary, films, and op-eds are filling in the gaps — and they aren't getting it right.
The result is a widening distance between what Islam is and what people are being told it is. That gap has real consequences for public discourse, policy, and the 3.45 million Muslims living in the United States as neighbors, colleagues, citizens, and friends.
So join us and discover Islam for what it truly is — a religion that values family, community, and justice.

About
Yaqeen Institute is a nonprofit research organization dedicated to producing rigorous, accessible scholarship about Islam. Our name, Yaqeen, is an Arabic word meaning certainty, and it reflects everything we do: helping people move past confusion and into clarity.
We publish articles, research papers, videos, and visual content developed by Islamic scholars and researchers who study and live Islam. Our work is built on the belief that knowledge is the antidote to fear, and that understanding any tradition requires hearing directly from those within it.
Hate Decoded is a project of Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
